A touch of southern sunshine Toby’s Journey

What do you get when you combine a master’s in Sports and Exercise, a love of travel, cooking, meeting new people, and a passion for communication with a fast‑moving software and payments company?  You get Toby – driven, curious, and already celebrating not one but two promotions in less than a year. Proof of the energy, determination, and spark he brings to every conversation.

At FLG, we’re more than colleagues – we’re a team that thrives on connection, laughter, and shared wins. And Toby fits right in. Whether he’s brainstorming with teammates, swapping travel stories, or cooking up ideas as effortlessly as he does meals, he’s become a shining example of what happens when passion meets opportunity.

We caught up with Toby to hear about his journey so far…

What was your path to this role and experiences along the way?

After finishing my master’s, I took some time off to travel. I’ve always been very personable and keen to meet new people – there’s honestly nothing I enjoy more than chatting. Some would even say I’m overly chatty! So, when it came time to decide on a career path, a friend suggested an SDR role might be a perfect fit. I started in Bournemouth working for a Cyber Security firm, and when the opportunity arose to join ClearCourse, I moved to London.

What drew you to the role of an SDR?

I could see a real opportunity here. With such a strong set of niche products, there was huge potential to reach a wider audience. This team was a new initiative, and it meant I could do what I love most – talking to people.

In a world that’s gone digital, the human touch is more important than ever. Technology makes it easier to reach people, but it takes skill and perseverance to engage them truly.  For me, it’s less about selling and more about listening, being curious, and asking the right questions.

That way, you help people find more efficient ways of doing things, rather than forcing them to change completely. As the team grew, I became the SDR lead – something I’ll keep doing in the short term.

Tell us a bit about your new post at FLG

In my new role as a Junior BDM, what excites me most is the chance to build deeper relationships and really shape how we connect with our customers. It’s about taking everything I’ve learned so far – being open, asking good questions, staying curious, and using that to help the team grow.  I love that every conversation is different, every challenge unique, and there’s always an opportunity to learn something new.

There’s also a massive gap in the market for products like FLG.  Most competitors are geared toward the enterprise space, with no real stepping stone for smaller teams.  FLG is that bridge – small enough to be accessible, but big enough to grow with them.  It’s targeted, focused, and designed to meet their lead management needs.

So, let’s talk about your new team…

As an SDR, I already worked closely with them, and what always stood out was just how knowledgeable they all are.  They’re extremely effective – you’d think there were far more people behind the scenes given the personal service they provide.  Every new customer gets free implementation and is up and running within 30 days.  These days, that’s unheard of.

Being part of a team that’s so supportive and collaborative makes the journey even better.  Everyone is so friendly, there’s a great vibe, and I like to think I bring a little Southerness to a very Northern team.  I joke that I add a bit of Southern sunshine – and judging by the smiles, they don’t mind one bit.

Outside of work…

I’m still really into sports – football, squash, tennis, running, even surfing.  I love to stay active.  Cooking is another big passion, and I’m happiest when I’m trying out new foods inspired by my travels.

My top travel spot right now is Morocco for surfing.  I love the friendly people, the accessibility, the weather, and the great value for money.  It’s become a regular December trip with my friends.”

Looking ahead..

It’s clear Toby thrives on connection, curiosity, and collaboration. Whether he’s chasing waves in Morocco, perfecting a new recipe, or leading conversations with customers, he brings the same energy and openness everywhere he goes.

We’re proud to have him on the journey with us – and we can’t wait to see where his drive takes him next.
